| Technical Bulletin: #55 Date: June 24, 1999 Subject: ML9748 Color Bleaching |
Over the last few years, we have seen increased usage of 100% polyester fabric as an alternative print substrate to nylon. This was intended as a cost savings measure as the price of nylon increased due to high demand in the Replica Athletic Jersey market. As a result, the need for stronger low bleed inks to print on polyester was intensified.
Rutland introduced our ML9748 as extremely strong low-bleed white ink with the sole purpose of printing on 100% polyester material as a stand alone white. This product should NOT be used on 100% cotton and 50/50 poly cotton materials, or be used as a white underlay for colored inks. The misuse of this product can cause colors printed on top of it to bleach or fade.
Rutland offers a strong low bleed white Product Number ML9749 Jersey White as a recommended product when printing on 100% polyester or 50/50 (polyester/cotton) substrates when used as an underlay. It is a proven formula that meets most dye migration resistance requirements in the textile screen print industry today. As with all screen print plastisols, this should be tested on the particular polyester fabric to determine the performance characteristics on a given fabric. The dye selection and the dyeing/finishing process for the polyester fabric is a major contributor to the end performance of the printed substrate. Please refer to the technical data sheet attached for specific printing and handling information.
